Pro Tips!
If my competitors don't know why a coil or Blower Motor needs to be blocked off during a Duct Cleaning, don't trust them! Big vacuums can be beneficial especially in bigger houses, however, ALOT of times, dust and debris bypass the vacuum and settle into the coil. Dust on your coils stops proper heat transfer. It acts as a thermal blanket, forcing your system to run longer and harder. This drop in performance leads to higher utility bills, frozen evaporator coils, and early system break downs. Dust on a blower motor causes extra friction, traps heat, and unbalances the fan blades. This makes the motor work harder, use more energy, and break down much faster.
I've personally found nerf balls, action figures, magazines, wood chips (from contruction), lighters, matches, plus the dust and debris in the Coil. Coils can often reach 95°F to 123°F while running. That's a fire hazard! Especially, in Chicago houses where they swicthed the Supply and the Return and the Supply is now panned joist. Always make sure your technician blocks off the coil and blower motor and inspects it afterwards!
Many Duct Cleaners overlook U points in your system as it is a trap for dust and will never get cleaned unless you make extra efforts to find any and clean them. Others commonly overlock parts of the Main Return Vents simply because they can't see them in the ceiling of the basement. About 90% of all of the dust will be in your return.
The most important thing to clean during a duct cleaning is the Return., as the supply is only about 10% of your dust. Some Supplies will have no dust at all if they are in the ceiling and not connected to another floor or level. If you want only the Return to be cleaned and not the Supply, you get a Duct Cleaning for only $200!
After a Air Duct Cleaning is completed, you should always check to make sure your Furnace and Condenser (A/C) still work. Many times during a Air Duct Cleaning, the worker may accidently detach a wire on the furnace making your Furnace or Condenser Nonfunctional. I know how to do installs and electrical as well. Does your other Air Duct Cleaning company know how? Or will you have to pay for a service tech to come fix it?
An Air Duct Cleaning will NOT fix an Air Flow Problem. Air Flow problems are normally because it's the farthest vent away from the Furnace/Coil. It can also be because of a detached, or rusted flu pipe (hole in the flue pipe), or a ripped flex vent. It can also be because of a closed damper.
During an Areoseal, the number one thing they have us do first is fix all the ductwork. Re-attach, patch, tape. That's where you notice a big difference in your air flow. I can do all that for you during my Duct Cleaning.
